In September 2017, the United
Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) organises the 14th edition of
the Orientation Programme for Junior Professional Officers (JPOs).
Traditionally, newly recruited JPOs
enrolled in this programme constitute a heterogeneous group with very different
cultural, academic and professional backgrounds. Furthermore, selected
participants are being deployed to an equally varied number of organisations
and work realities across the world in headquarters and field locations.
In accordance with the group’s
diversity, UNSSC’s programme focuses on core and crosscutting issues, providing
JPOs with a common package of knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to
be effective and undertake a successful career in the UN system, at both headquarters
and country offices. The Programme provides a safe learning environment where
participants can share their experience, concerns and objectives, while helping
them develop a strong professional and peer support network.
This pilot and innovative workshop targets current
Swedish JPOs and SARCs on duty in head-quarters or in the field, who have almost
reached the conclusion of their working assignment and now wish to explore
possible future career paths and developments.
Therefore, the Programme’s main goal is to equip
the group of JPOs and SARCs with a set of tools, skills and knowledge which will
effectively support and guide their future professional steps and careers.
